CAA
Hello my fellow Mooredalians;

The sailing season will soon be upon us and the Canadian Albacore Association’s executive team has been working very hard to make your 2009 sailing season full and memorable. We would like to take this opportunity to describe the purpose and responsibilities of the Canadian Albacore Association.

Your membership allows the CAA to continue to:

  • Encourage members to participate in maintaining the integrity of the Albacore Class in Canada
  • Enforce and manage the Albacore Class Rules & Constitution along with the other National Associations as members of the International Albacore Association
  • Allocate and manage championships and regattas, the Harbour Master Race Series, the Fall Series and the Gooderham Series
  • Communicate with boat owners, other sailors, regatta organizers and other official sailing associations
  • Provide on-going consultation to the class boat builder and sail makers to ensure compliance, consistency and forward-thinking improvements
  • Manage the activities and finances of the Association on behalf of members across the country
  • Maintain a contingency fund for future use in constructing moulds as needed for the current or any subsequent builder. This funding is provided by a nominal, on-going boat-construction fee.
  • Provide training, resources, promote and develop the Albacore Class in sailing communities throughout Canada
  • Coordinate bulk sails and hull purchases to secure favourable pricing for members

This year the CAA conducted an extensive web-based membership survey and used the results of that survey to develop key initiatives for the 2009/2010 CAA Work Plan. Our current key initiatives along with the benefits above, help describe the current role of the CAA within Canada:

As set out in the 2009/2010 Work Plan, the CAA aims to:

  • Create an educational information plan to help class sailors understand the building and construction process of Albacores in Canada under the direction of the current builder; to work within that program to communicate sailors' input to the builder in terms of improved assembly quality and other design concerns, as well as to provide the best final enhancements to the hull available to the market
  • Develop additional measures to promote the Albacore Class through conducting new promotional events and extending invitations to sailors from other fleets to test sail the Albacore
  • Provide leadership and a strong voice for the CAA in the International Albacore Association (IAA) in all its activities related to Albacore Class governance, including the recent ISAF re-formatting of our official rules for the RYA.
  • Explore the creation of a Junior Sailing Event
  • Collect, consolidate and post Albacore race results from events across Canada to the CAA website
  • Collect, consolidate and post race results for the Outer Harbour Friday Night Series, Harbour Master Series sailing events, and the Outer Harbour Fall Series Event
  • Develop and deliver skills-building training events for all Albacore sailors
  • Facilitate communication among boat owners, other sailors, regatta organizers and official governing organizations
