Each spring marks the rebirth of a Mooredalean! Springtime in the Outer Harbour brings the waterfront back to life. Soon the little paradise-by-the-lake will again become a flurry of activity. There’s not an event or activity left unplanned and our members do them all so well! Members’ hearts soar and pulses quicken as they start to think about sailing, the thrill of planing across the open water on a Laser, Albacore, or Hobie, and swapping stories on the deck enjoying a warm summer’s afternoon.
As the season starts, new students will find themselves part of an extensive learn-to-sail program and an organization that excels at fun! There are sailing events for new and old members, social gatherings that will remind you of college days, and summer afternoons by the water that will rival retreats to the Muskokas. For members returning from their inaugural season there are plenty of sailing opportunities. Race training is a great way to enhance sailing skills, learn the fundamentals of racing, and be part of a 40-year racing tradition.
For members looking for something a little mellower, there will be the White Sail Plus (Rust Removers), social sails, fun races for all skill levels, and the perennial club favourite – the Wednesday Night Social sail and dinner. For mid-fleeters eager to move up the pack and challenge the club leaders, there will be ample opportunities to improve racing skills through Mooredale and Canadian Albacore Association training sessions. And, for top-level sailors, mentoring and training opportunities for the up-and-coming sailor abound to give you something to strive for and help ensure Mooredale maintains its position as a top sailing club.
This is just a taste of what awaits you - but what’s your part in all this? Well, we need you for everything from decorating; boat maintenance and dock repair to marinating some steaks! If you have special skills like driving a powerboat, office, painting, landscaping, organizing, fibreglassing, please let us know - we can use you! The Club is and it’s Executive are always open to your suggestions and comments – that is what a community club is all about!
