2009 Canadian Albacore Championship

Invitation: The Canadian Albacore Association (CAA) invites you to attend the 2009 Canadian Albacore Championship Regatta to be held Friday through Sunday, September 18 - 20, 2009. The Challenger Fleet's event will be held on the 19th and 20th.

Site: The 2009 Canadian Albacore Championship will be held in Hamilton Harbour.

Eligibility/Entry: The 2009 Canadian Albacore Championship Regatta is open to Albacore class sailors who meet all class membership and yacht measurement requirements and who have paid all event fees before beginning official competition. All entrants must be members in good standing of the CAA and/or USAA/or another recognized National Albacore Association. A yacht shall register only its hull number and use only that number on any sails used in this event.

Chartered Boats and Sail Numbers Not Matching:
For those competitors who wish to register with a chartered hull, sail number on charter boats, appendix G Rule 3 applies RRS-G3 is in effect. Competitors wishing to take advantage of this provision must make an application to the CAA in writing in accordance with instructions and deadlines set forth in the NOR. Late applications may be accepted at the sole discretion of the review authority, but in no case will they be accepted after the close of registration for the event.

The application should include:
a) Clear statement of the reason(s) for requesting an exemption.
b) A copy of the measurement certificate for the boat to which the sails to be used belong, showing the sails to be used are measured and properly endorsed on the certificate.
c) The hull number and name of owner of the chartered or loaned hull which will be used with miss matched sails.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it will immediately acknowledge such receipt and communicate to the application a date by which a decision will be rendered. Such applications will be treated on a case-by-case basis and may be granted or denied. The principle guiding each decision will be fair sailing in accordance with the spirit of the Sail Endorsement Class Rule 13.5.2. In no circumstances will a boat be permitted to use the sail number of another boat that is racing.

Approved applications shall be communicated to the applicant within two (2) weeks of the event in the acknowledgement and posted on the official event notice board prior to the first race. Competitors who are found to be in violation of the rules regarding sail numbers and their endorsement and who have not applied for and received an exemption as stated in this interpretation will be subject to protest and disqualification.

All competitors shall carry the required safety equipment as required by Transport Canada, defined in the Safe Boating Guide, (Transport Publication 511 E) for Sail and Power Boats up to 6 m". The guide may be referenced at this link:

The summary of required safety equipment in the context of this regatta is as follows:
One buoyant heaving line at least 15m in length
One sound signaling device
One manual bailing device
One manual propulsion device (paddle)
One properly-fitting PFD or Life Jacket per person

Rules: The 2009 Canadian Albacore Championship Regatta will be governed by the 2009-2012 Racing Rules of sailing including changes issued by the ISAF, the prescriptions of the Canadian Yachting Association (CYA), and the rules of the Albacore class, except where altered by this notice of the Regatta Sailing Instructions. In the event of conflict, the Regatta Sailing Instructions will take precedence. On the water judges will be present.

Scoring: The low point scoring system will apply. The completion of one (1) race constitutes a series. One throw-out will be allowed providing at least five (5) races are completed. The intent is to complete at least seven (7) races.

Measurement: All boats must be accompanied with a valid measurement certificate and a current buoyancy endorsement. No provisions will be made for any measurement services of sails or buoyancy endorsements at this regatta. No measurements will be done by the class association after Saturday September 12th NO EXCEPTIONS.

Registration:
Waiver & Fees: On site registration at Royal Hamilton Yacht Club will be available. All helms and crews are required to check in & sign CAA waiver forms prior to racing. On site entry fee is $220.00 for A Fleet and $170.00 for B Fleet Canadian per boat. Pre-registration entry fee - $190.00 for A Fleet and $140.00 for B Fleet (must be received before the Sept. 10). Venue: Racing for the Championship Fleet and the Challenger Fleet will take place on the same course located in the waters of Hamilton Harbour.

Berthing: Members of local clubs may keep their boats in their assigned locations and can launch and haul out at their home clubs. Visiting boats can launch and haul at Royal Hamilton Yacht Club.
